Getting rid of your old trains

NVMR, Inc. is frequently contacted for assistance in “finding a good home” for no longer wanted/needed/used model railroad equipment. This includes everything from sections of track to entire layouts. If you are looking for assistance in this regard, consider the following recommendations:

  1. For maximization of value received for your collection, eBay cannot be beat.  It will take time and effort on your part, but you’ll be able to establish reasonable values and receive appropriate compensation for the collection and your work.
  2. There are dealers that can be located via your favorite internet search engine who may be willing to purchase your entire collection for a lump sum.  You can expect to get “pennies on the dollar” from this approach, but remember that the dealer is going to do most of the work.  Note that a dealer will more than likely be able to establish if your collection is of value through an over the phone discussion.
  3. Lastly, the members at the NVMR, Inc. may be willing to accept a donation (we are NOT a qualifying charity under federal tax codes) if your collection is HO Scale.  Our typical process is to use anything we can on our club layout, followed by auctioning off the remains to club members with the proceeds going to our general fund.  Anything that can’t be used by our members will most likely be committed to our dumpster.

We hope the above provides some help in your time of liquidation, and feel free to email us if you have any questions.
